Book Review: Only for the Week by Natasha Bishop

Before I started physical therapy school I had the pleasure of reading Only for the Week by Natasha Bishop, and I finally have time to share my book review!

Now, before we begin, something you should know about me is that I am NOT a book snob. I don’t read very often, so when I do, I’m simply looking to enjoy a good story. I don’t over-analyze for plot holes or super nitty-gritty details. My book reviews are designed to give a quick description of my thoughts with no spoilers. I have two basic criteria that I judge (sometimes three if it’s relevant):

Plot: the overall storyline from beginning to end.
Spice: any R-rated scenes between the characters (I try not to read books with spice, but sometimes I’m caught by surprise)
Overall Experience: was I entertained and satisfied?

With that being said, let’s get started!

Plot: ★★★★★ [5 stars]

I thought this was such a fun storyline, and I’m a sucker for drama, so when I saw that the female main character’s (FMC) sister was marrying her ex? SOLD. How are we handling this, sis? I personally would’ve gone to the destination, but not the wedding, LOL.

Natasha Bishop did a wonderful job painting a picture of the nuances of friendship, family, and romance. It was realistic, which I enjoyed, but not overly frustrating to where we had to read through the most ridiculous conflicts for the sake of having tension in the story. I could easily see this book being converted into a movie.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ [4 chili peppers]

Whew, chile! The love birds in this book were quite…kinky. Now, full disclosure, I am NOT a reliable source when it comes to spice. Because of my walk with Christ and my battle against lust, I have a conviction against consuming sexual content. When I stumbled across the spicy scenes in this book, I would either skip them, or skim them. From what I saw, they had fun. *blushes*

Overall Experience: ★★★★ [4 stars]

One of the first things I complimented about this book was how beautiful the metaphors were and how hilarious the characters were. I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to finish, kicking my feet, gasping, laughing, all the feels. This is exactly the kind of book I needed to get my mind off of the upcoming stress I was about to (and currently) endure in physical therapy school.

The one caveat that keeps me from giving this five stars was that I often found myself confused about who was speaking due to the lack of dialogue tags. I can understand how redundant dialogue tags can be, but for a once-in-a-while reader like me, it keeps me focused and on track. I had to re-read passages a few times to keep track of who was saying what.

Other than that, Only for the Week by Natasha Bishop made my heart smile. It made me feel good about reading again, and it didn’t feel like a burden-book that I wanted to hurry up and finish for the sake of saying I finished. As a fellow author, I hope my book does the same for others. So, I tip my hat to Miss Bishop! Well done.
